For reasons which make perfect sense to the Dead Three, they require their Chosen to participate in a ritual threesome to seal the alliance. The Chosen themselves don't get a say in the matter. Ketheric wants to get the thing over with and carry on with unlife, the Dark Urge is out for blood, and Gortash is just plain cruel so everyone knows he's in charge.
